Born in Baltimore, MD, Maril is perhaps the greatest artist to ever hail from Maryland. The Baltimore Museum of Art , University of Maryland, and Phillips Collection in
Washington, DC, all have major collections of his paintings from his quasi regionalist works of the 1930’s to his simplified abstractions of interiors and landscapes of the 1960’s to 1980’s.
He is represented in more than fifty major art museum permanent collections.
The Harmon-Meek Gallery has represented his estate since 1989 and has displayed three major solo exhibitions. There have been at least six museum shows honoring the artist in the past five years.
