Humberto Calzada was born in Cuba in 1944
and came to Miami in 1960 with his family. Calzada
is perhaps the most celebrated of all the Cuban-American
artists, having seen his works acquired by about
thirty art museums. Since his first solo exhibition in
1975 he has had more than seventy-five more exhibitions
at museums and galleries throughout Florida,
Central and South America, as well as through-out
the Caribbean region.
The Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami
published the 252 page book to commemorate his
thirty-year retrospective exhibition at the museum in
2006.
His mystical and illusionary canvases place the
viewer in a believable and yet totally imaginary
world. We are truly honored to add this masterful
painter to our distinguished stable of artists
